What is First?
FIRST® is an international organization founded in 1989 that aims to inspire youth to become future leaders. By engaging students in exciting programs FIRST teaches STEM concepts, inspires innovation, and fosters the development of self-confidence, leadership, and communication skills.
FIRST has different programs for students of different age groups. Woodside High School competes in the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) program for high school students in grades 9-12. The program allows high school students to work side by side with professional engineers. Students learn skills ranging from business to fabrication and software. Every January, FIRST releases a new FRC game challenge. Thousands of FRC teams around the world design, build, and program new robots to play each new game.
The FRC competition experience is one of the most fun and exciting events of students' high school careers. Learn more about FIRST here.
